History: here
Personality:
Manipulative Elias has A Plan, and has had A Plan for years. To have one to this scale requires many moving parts and the adaptability when things go…awry (looking at you, Gertrude and Jurgen). But Elias was there for all of it: helping coordinate Jon’s suffering at the hands of all the fears, goading Peter with bets he purposefully lost in order to get him to agree to the final wager even though it was impossible to win, sending Jon tapes when he needed them to feed the Eye, altering Robert Smirke’s design for Millbank Prison to make it more torturous without him knowing, and sending the final statement that lead to the apocalypse, one that began simple and innocent enough until the true statement of Jonah Magnus was written. And that doesn’t even get into how he got Basira to sign the employment contract with the Magnus Institute in order to get Daisy to back down, or the way he blackmailed her…and most of the police department, not to mention countless others. One might think he was with the Web if not for a limited level of short-sightedness (which will be explored later).
Ambitious/Persistence What began in the 1800s with a group of men whispering and speculating grew into driving forces for most of them. Learning about the Fears sparked something in Jonah, and led him down the road of his first, failed ritual: the Watcher’s Crown. And while it didn’t work, he did find he could Know and See so much more than he ever could. This inspired him to keep pushing, trying until the truth came to him: if he wanted to win before another avatar did, then he would have to mark his archivist with all the Fears.. And as he worked on that plan, it failed. Often. But this was a plan that he never abandoned; it would just take the right person. The right Jon. Elias wanted that power. He wanted that chance to beat death, he wanted to reign, and refused to let someone else do it over him.
Composed Elias carries himself like every bureaucratic upper tier boss: dressed well, was charming, and was willing to talk about the Goods and the Bads of your performance review. He didn’t shake easily, not unless he believed he was really about to die, and didn’t often get his own hands dirty (unless a wayward Jurgen Leitner threatened his plans with Jon, requiring a fatal correction with a lead pipe). Afterward, though, he would go right back to being your supportive employer, explaining your pension benefits.
Patient He spent decades trying to get this plan for the apocalypse right, and didn’t waiver. He had all the patience he needed and continued on, willing to do whatever it took, however long it took. What was two hundred years against forever, anyway?
A bit Blind For as much as Elias can See, he was short-sighted and didn’t necessarily Understand. His plan to launch the apocalypse succeeded, but it would lead to the extinction of everything due everyone’s eventual death and the Fears starving until Terminus took them, too. In the end, there was only The End. He thought he could manipulate Jon at the end before he killed him, assuming he understood him and they were the same. He sent Jon those tapes, not understanding that they were the Web’s the entire time. Even in the final statement, it is said: “The Great Eye, the most unwise of all the fragments, forever seeking and consuming knowledge that it could not comprehend” and Elias embodies that perfectly.
Suitability: Elias thrives off fear: other people’s and his own. He is going to be the one both pushing the boundaries and trying to cover up what he does. Apocalypses, Fears…he knows these, lives these, breathes these and has for years; they are his greatest tool and his greatest driving force.
